Many people get headaches and for some, poor vision can exacerbate them. Stress and tension headaches associated with computer and desk work seem to be becoming more common and spectacles can sometimes relive this.
Migraines affects up to 15% of the UK population and around two thirds of sufferers are women. Migraine is believed to be caused by the release of a chemical called serotonin or 5HT into the bloodstream from its storage sites in the body, resulting in changes in the neurotransmitters and blood vessels in the brain. Exactly what causes this to happen, is still a subject for research and debate. However, certain factors have been identified which can trigger attacks in susceptible people which include emotional stress, diet and hormonal factors. Another important trigger are environmental factors such as seeing certain patterns, bright or flickering lights or blurred objects. This means that people with migraine tend to need spectacles and sometimes tinted glasses can help. Eye position is also really important for people with migraine so its especially important that these glasses are expertly dispensed and fitted. Some people with migraine need prism glasses or eye exercise to help their eye position difficulty.
